The company established in 1934 from the idea of the eponymous founder Pierre Frey and designer Jean Chatanay specializes in furniture and textile production. After the War, the brand reached the American market and established itself as an international player in the textile industry.

In the following years, the management of the brand passed from generation to generation, acquiring other businesses such as Denimal weaving mill in northern France, Boussac and Fadini Borghi, and Le Manach.
